Charities Providing Direct Relief in Indonesia
The following are 501(c)(3) U.S. charities providing direct aid and support to individuals and families affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia. When recommending a grant, please indicate “Indonesia Tsunami Relief” as the purpose of your grant to ensure that the charity correctly designates your gift.
We encourage our donors to research all charities and charitable impact prior to entering a grant recommendation.
All Hands and Hearts – Smart Response (EIN: 20-3414952)
Working with local communities and organizations, All Hands and Hearts designs both immediate and long-term strategies to rebuild after disasters through financial and volunteer assistance. A response for Indonesia is in development, but anticipated needs include food distribution, deconstruction of unsafe structures, debris removal, and building temporary infrastructure such as homes, medical facilities, and schools.
Catholic Relief Services (EIN: 13-5563422)
CRS teams are working in support of local partners in the affected areas to provide immediate relief needs such as tarps, blankets, sleeping mats, and sanitation supplies.
Direct Relief (EIN: 95-1831116)
Direct Relief works closely with the ASEAN Coordinating Center for Humanitarian Assistance in member countries. Medicines and medical supplies have been prepositioned throughout South East Asia since the partnership began in 2016, in an effort to reduce bottlenecks and allow for rapid deployment as needs are identified.
Food for the Hungry (EIN: 95-2680390)
FH has been working in Indonesia since a tsunami struck the country in 2004, focusing their efforts on long-term development in agricultural practices, education, and income generation programs. Working with other local organizations and churches, FH can deploy an Emergency Response Unit to help address the immediate needs of affected areas.
Global Giving (EIN: 30-0108263)
An online crowdfunding and giving platform, Global Giving has established the Indonesia Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund. All funds raised are distributed to local, vetted organizations providing immediate response as well as long-term support and relief efforts.
International Medical Corps (EIN: 95-3949646)
International Medical Corps has been working in Indonesia since 2000 and was one of the first organizations able to respond to isolated areas after a tsunami hit the country in 2004. The organization In coordination with long-time local partners, governments, and other agencies, International Medical Corps will deploy staff, medical supplies, and medicines where they are most needed.
Mercy Corps (EIN: 91-1148123)
Mercy Corps has been working in Indonesia for over 20 years, focusing on long-term resiliency of communities affected by crisis. Teams already located in Indonesia are working to address immediate needs of survivors in addition to those affected by previous earthquakes throughout the summer.
Project HOPE (EIN: 53-0242962)
Project HOPE has had a presence in Indonesia since the Indian Ocean Tsunami hit in 2004, providing immediate medical assistance as well as a long-term focus on maternal and child health. Working with local authorities and first responders, Project HOPE will deploy medical teams where they are most needed to ease the burden on local health workers and facilities.
Save the Children (EIN: 06-0726487)
Working in Indonesia since 1976, Save the Children has a long history of responding to disasters in the country, including the deadly 2004 tsunami and recent earthquakes. In addition to providing necessary supplies such as household items, hygiene kits, and temporary shelter materials, Save the Children provides Child Friendly Spaces, giving children a safe and supportive space.
UNICEF (EIN: 13-1760110)
UNICEF is working with the Indonesian government to help reunite families, provide food and water, and ensure safe places to play and learn are available to affected children.
World Vision (EIN: 95-1922279)
World Vision has been providing child protection, educational programs, water, and sanitation, and hygiene supplies to areas affected by recent earthquakes, and supplies were already in place when the tsunami hit. The organization has established an infant and child feeding center and is addressing immediate needs of food, water, shelter, and child protection.
