GivingPoint: Leveraging Guidance to Build and Strengthen your Philanthropic Strategy
Navigating the charitable landscape to identify your philanthropic purpose can be daunting for even the most seasoned donors. With a thoughtful and considered strategy, your donor-advised fund (DAF) account can help answer the question: What do you want your giving to accomplish?
NPT’s GivingPoint, our proprietary donor portal providing an enhanced giving experience for donors and trusted advisors, offers donors guidance and support through all stages of grantmaking. For example, The Philanthropy Toolkit: An Introduction to Giving Effectively walks donors through each step, from initial philanthropic considerations and budgetary planning to issue area focus and grantee selection. Videos, detailed guides and worksheets are available for individuals, families and financial advisors as templates for discussion and planning for effective giving.
For donors ready to refine their strategy, additional resources provide a deeper understanding of areas like trust-based philanthropy, creating a giving legacy and collaborating with peers for a more significant impact. NPT’s Philanthropic Solutions team’s issue-focused resources for areas like disaster relief, climate issues and equitable giving give donors insight into the intersectionality of giving.
Identifying a purpose for your philanthropy helps translate your goals into charitable support for organizations operating within your interest areas. A thoughtful strategy can produce a more impactful outcome. Using the tools available as a compass to define and enhance your philanthropic plan and optimize your DAF account can help you achieve your goals.
Take the next steps and start giving:
Log in to your GivingPoint account and navigate to Guidance. From there, explore the tools and resources available. Download any PDFs that will help your planning conversations. Learn more about involving friends and family in your giving, including the next generation of philanthropists.
Once you’re ready to give, click on Grant in the main menu and select Make a Grant Recommendation. You can search for an organization or choose from your favorite charities list.
When entering a grant recommendation, consider the purpose of your grant. This designation communicates the intention of your grant to the nonprofit organization you support.
An unrestricted grant allows the organization to identify where the need is greatest, including programmatic and general operations. Choosing a specific purpose, such as annual funds or capital projects, supports specific initiatives and identifies your interests to an organization. You can review your grant activity anytime by navigating to Activity and Grant activity.
NPT’s dedicated staff are here to support you every step of the way. Log in to your GivingPoint donor portal and review our resources and guides to help you on your path to giving.
