Guidance on Supporting Disaster Recovery in Myanmar and Thailand
On Friday, March 28, 2025, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, resulting in more than 2,700 lives lost across the country and in neighboring Thailand. With an awareness that the number of casualties will increase in the coming days, the need for emergency aid and resources is significant.
The region has already been plagued by humanitarian crises due to civil war, food shortages and mass displacement, making the damage from the natural disaster even more dire. The earthquake has also caused major damage to buildings, roads, and structures. Rescue teams from around the globe have begun to respond.
With millions impacted internationally, and the scope of the damage and loss still being assessed in both regions, DAF donors are uniquely situated to help in providing rapid response. For NPT donors looking to help in the face of both disasters, we are sharing a recommended list of nonprofits working on a global scale to help those directly affected.
