Articles of Incorporation and IRS Determination Letter
On February 28, 1996, National Philanthropic Trust (NPT) was incorporated as a Pennsylvania nonprofit corporation with a mission to increase philanthropy in society as a national public charity that manages donor-advised funds (DAFs). The Internal Revenue Service issued its determination letter on July 10, 1996, confirming that NPT is exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and that NPT should be classified as a public charity.
Launched by Pitcairn Trust Company, a small private bank outside of Philadelphia, the founders envisioned NPT as a national, neutral and more flexible alternative to previously existing “commercially sponsored” donor-advised funds. NPT was established to offer unique charitable giving solutions and in-depth expertise in philanthropy.
